The Klepto Kitty
28 JunKleptomania is defined as the irrisistible urge to steal items of trivial value. In the case of our feline friend Dusty, I think he’s looting so he can get famous. Imagine all the chin rubs celebrities enjoy.
Dusty, who lives in San Mateo near San Francisco, earned his fame by stealing things from neighbors during nightly prowls near his home. Shoes, toys, bras – you meow it, he brings it home. His escapades have been documented by Animal Planet, and Dusty has even appeared on David Letterman. *Extra chin rubs*
Or maybe he’s running a black market syndicate for the neighbourhood cats? But why do they want to buy car wash sponges?
Best Friends hosts aCATemy Awards
4 MarI came across the Best Friends Animal Society website while Mama was obsessing over adopting a second kitty. I don’t think I can let that happen since all the attention in this house belongs to me.
Best Friends is based in Utah, USA and while that’s a long walk from Melbourne, I appreciate their good work. One of their most famous rescues was in Pahrump, Nevada where 400 cats were found to be living in neglect at what was meant to be an animal shelter. The 2 ½-acre property was in terrible shape when Best Friends arrived, and most of the cats were starving and in dire need of medical care. Best Friends took care of the cats till they were back on all four feet again, before finding forever homes. Good ending to a story that could otherwise have ended very badly.
So, the good humans at Best Friends decided to host a real aCATemy Awards ceremony last week. Somehow my nominations didn’t make the cut. Still, the kitties that walked the red carpet at the uber glamorous adoption events in Los Angeles and New Jersey were much more worthy.
At each event, guests entered on the red carpet decorated with the names of the feline celebs, including Denzel Pawshington, Will Feral, Cindy Clawford, and Cat Winslet. Inside 200 cats were awaiting the purrparazzi and a new forever home.
Each adoption was a grand event, with family members receiving a special aCATemy Award statue and having their photos taken with the newest star of the family.
